Welcome to the PUUYA Foundation
* Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are advised that names or photos of deceased people may appear on this website *
The Puuya Foundation’s purpose is to empower indigenous Australians and to build relationships between indigenous & non-indigenous people to close the gap. The Puuya Foundation has been established to make a difference.
It is an independent, non-profit and secular organisation established to strengthen “puuya”, meaning “life force” in local Kuuku Ya’u language.
Initiated in the remote Aboriginal community of Lockhart River, this new Australian Public Company was registered in December 2008. The Foundation aims to work initially with the Lockhart River community, but to expand its reach over time.

We are proud to announce the launch online of a second CD called Kinchya Ngumpulungu: Songs from the East Coast Lockhart River. The Community Development Team has organised music writing workshops to record original songs (contemporary and traditional), drumming workshops, creating music clips for YouTube.
